The best time to visit Socotra Island is from October to April, when the island is blanketed in vibrant green, making its mountains, valleys, and coastal areas ideal travel destinations.
At Socotra Week, we help you choose the perfect dates for your trip based on your interests and the activities you wish to experience.
October – November
During this time, the island gradually emerges from the effects of the monsoon season, and natural conditions gradually return to normal. Some areas may experience rainfall, bringing more vibrancy and greenery to the landscape, while the weather gradually becomes milder and the sea calms.
This period is ideal for nature lovers, photographers, and those who enjoy exploring the mountains, beaches, valleys, and scenic landscapes.
December – January | Exceptional Mountain Weather
This period is characterized by cooler weather, with a chance of rain and cloud cover, especially in the mountainous and highland regions. The sea may be rougher on some days. This climate offers a unique experience for mountain hikers, campers, and those exploring the highlands and valleys, as the rain and fog add a distinctive touch to Socotra's natural beauty.
February – March | Nature and Sea
Temperatures gradually rise, making conditions more suitable for a variety of activities. With improved sea conditions, swimming, diving, snorkeling, and photography are all possible, along with exploring nature, villages, and coastal areas.
This period is also ideal for witnessing the flowering of some local plants and trees, including the desert rose.
April – May | Island Warmth
Temperatures gradually increase as the monsoon season approaches, and the weather becomes warmer, especially in coastal areas.
Some activities remain suitable during this period, such as relaxing on the beaches, swimming, and engaging in some water activities and exploration, keeping in mind that weather and sea conditions can vary from week to week.
June – September | Windy Season
During these months, Socotra is affected by the southwest monsoon winds, which increase in speed significantly and can reach very strong levels at times. The effects of the winds are most pronounced across large parts of the island, while some southern areas may be relatively more protected from their impact.
During this period, boat traffic, maritime activities, and travel between some areas become more difficult. Daily life on the island is affected by the monsoon winds, and fishing and maritime transport decline.
For this reason, this period falls outside the main tourist season to Socotra, and it is advisable to plan your visit for the months when weather conditions are more favorable for exploration and travel.
